Beyond the Tap: The Value of Alternative Water Sources for Climate Adaptation

NRERC is proud of prof. Ruslana Rahel Palatnik who presented a new research “Beyond the Tap: The Value of Alternative Water Sources for Climate Adaptation” at the EGU General Assembly in May 2026. This is a research study conducted by Ruslana Palatnik, Dor Fridman, Julia Sirota, Orna Raviv, Ramiro Parrado, Mordechai Shechter, and Francesco Bosello.

The research focuses on the Mediterranean region, where climate change worsens natural water scarcity alongside growing population and income demands. Core Method: Uses a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) economic model (building on the GTAP-AW framework) to analyze the economic impacts of alternative water sectors. Main Topics: Evaluates the economic value and integration of alternative water sources—such as desalination and treated wastewater—as strategies for climate change adaptation.
