Implementation lags: A case study of the European plastics strategy

NERC is proud of new publication of Dr. Tal Hocherman under guidance of Dr. Tamar Trop and prof. Andrea Ghermandi:

Hocherman, T., Trop, T. and Ghermandi A. (2026). Implementation lags: A case study of the European plastics strategy‎. Marine Policy, v. 190. 107135.

Pollution of the marine environment by mismanaged plastic waste has been recognized as a global problem necessitating urgent action. The European Union’s Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy‎ aims to lead the transition to a more sustainable plastics future. The findings show that over 70% of transpositions were delayed, and that upstream delays in Commission outputs often undermined timely national action.
